Deep Sclerectomy with a Non-Absorbable Implant (T-Flux®)

Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları A.D., İzmir Purpose: We aimed to determine the efficacy, success rate and complications of deep sclerectomy with a non- absorbable implant (T- Flux, IOLTECH®, France) in this study.
Materials and Methods: Twentty-seven patients (31 eyes) with medically uncontrolled open angle glaucoma were treated by deep sclerectomy with T- Flux. Intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction, surgical success and complication rates were evaluated.
Results: After a mean follow up of 35.1±9.9 months, the mean preoperative IOP reduced from 24.6±6.7 mmHg to 15.9±3.1 mmHg at 36 months visit (p=0.000, Student’s t test). Complete success rate (IOP< 21 mmHg without medication) was 77,5% at 6 month, 67,7% at 12 months, 35,5% at 24 months and 20% at 36 months. Qualified success rates (IOP< 21 mmHg with or without medication) were 96,7%, 93,5%, 90,3% and 85% respectively. No postoperative complications, regarding the probable complications of trabeculectomy, was observed. Two eyes underwent goniopunctures with Nd: YAG laser. Two eyes (6,5%) underwent trabeculectomy at 24 months.
Conclusion: A statistically significant drop of IOP with few postoperative complications over long term could be achieved with deep sclerectomy with T- Flux.
