Purpose: To assess whether central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements with ultrasonic pacyhmeter is reproducible among different observers and repeated measurements of a single observer.

Materials and Methods: To assess the reproducibility among different observers, CCT measurements were performed on 50 eyes by 3 observers of varying experience (1. most experienced, 2. moderately experienced, 3. least experienced). A single observer also performed repeated mesaurents of CCT on 50 eyes in order to assess the reproducibility of the same observer’s measuremens. The reproducibility of measurements were analyzed statistically by calculating intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). In addition, percentage of mesaurement differences equal or greater than 10 μm were determined.

Results: The mean CCT mesaurements of 1., 2. and 3. observers were 548, 549 and 552 μm for right eyes and 547, 548 and 550 μm for left eyes, respectively. ICC was 0.99 between 1. and 2. observers’, 0.98 between 3. and other observers’ measurements for both eyes. Percentage of measurements equal or greater than 10 μm were 4% between 1. and 2. observers, 13% between 3. and other observers. Repeated measurements of a single observer were 550, 550 ve 550 μm for right eyes, and 549, 550 ve 549 μm for left eyes, respectively. ICC was 0.98 for repeated measurements of both eyes by this observer. Also, the percentage of measurements equal or greater than 10 μm were 4% for repeated measuerements of this observer.

Conclusion: Measurements of CCT by means of ultrasonic pachymetry among different observers and repeated measurements of a single observer are reproducible; however inexperienced observers tend to perform thicker measurements. Keywords : Central corneal thickness, pachymetry, reproducubility
