Purpose: To compare Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) and Tonopen in measurements of intraocular pressure (IOP) and to evaluate the effect of central corneal thickness (CCT) on measurements with both tonometers.

Materials and Methods: The prospective study included 195 right eyes of 195 healthy subjects. IOP values were measured by GAT and Tonopen, and CCT measurements were measured by an ultrasonic pachymeter device. Pearson correlation analysis was used for whether there was any correlation between IOP and CCT measurements, or not.

Results: The mean IOP values were 14.16±2.07 mmHg by GAT, and 14.09±2.00 mmHg by Tonopen. There was not a statistically significant difference between these two tonometers. The mean CCT value of individuals was 547.23±36.67 µm. IOP values which obtained with the both GAT and Tonopen were observed to be affected by CCT.

Conclusion: There was no significant difference in IOP measurements with GAT and Tonopen. Keywords : Goldmann applanation tonometry, intraocular pressure, central corneal thickness, tonopen
