Purpose: To compare two hydrophobic spherical acrylic lenses in terms of their effects on higher order aberrations.

Materials and Methods: In this prospective and randomized study 48 eyes of 38 patients who underwent cataract surgery with phacoemulsification and hydrophobic acrylic IOL implantation were included. Two hydrophobic spherical IOL groups were made up. In group 1, Focus force F260, Zaraccom (Anadolu Tıp Teknolojileri, Sivas, Turkey) lenses were implanted in 24 eyes. In group 2, Acrysof SA 60 (Alcon Lab. Inc.,FtWorth, Tex, USA) were used in 24 eyes. Aberrometry was performed on postoperative 90 thday and two groups were compared for higher order aberrations.

Results: Postoperative total RMS value was 3.18±2.48 for Zaraccom group. The other values were 0.17±0.19 for higher order RMS, 0.04±0.06 for coma, -0.004±0.07 for spherical aberration, and 0,08±0,09 for trefoil. The results for Acrysof SA 60 group were 1.44±1.40; 0.24±0.1; 0.13±0.08; 0.05±0.06; 0.14±0.08 for total RMS value, higher order RMS value, coma, spherical aberration and trefoil respectively.

Conclusion: There was not statistically significant difference between two groups for all aberrometry parameters (p>0.05). Keywords : Higher order aberrations, phacoemulsification, zaraccom, Acrysof SA 60
