Diagnosis and Differential Diagnosis in Congenital Glaucoma

Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Department of Ophthalmology, Istanbul/TURKEY Congenital glaucomas are responsible 4-18% in all childhood blindness.1 Treatment is difficult, and it necessitates for eligable person in this subject.2 True and on-time diagnosis of congenital glaucoma is crucial for effective treatment. Primary congenital glaucoma(PCG) is the most common form of developmental glaucomas, which has an isolated maldevelopment of the outflow pathways. Epiphora (excessive tearing), photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), and blepharospasm (squeezing of the eyelids) are the classic triad of PCG. Buphthalmus, corneal enlargement and clouding and tears in Descemet's membrane (Haab's striae) are most prominent signs of PCG. In this paper, the clinics, the diagnostic methods and the differential diagnosis of PCG are described. Keywords : Congenital glaucoma, buphthalmus, megalocorneae, Haabs striae, intraocular pressure
