³M.D. Professor, Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital, Eye Clinic, Istanbul/TURKEY Alport syndrome (AS) is a hereditary disease characterized by progressive kidney disease, high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss and ocular abnormalities. 34-year-old male patient, with a history of using the same cycloplegic drops for 20 years, was admitted to our clinic to have prescription. At initial examination, visual acuity (VA) was 2/10 in the right eye and in the left eye with Snellen. Cornea was clear, anterior chamber structures were intact, the pupils were fix dilated due to cycloplegic drops, cristalline lenses were curved forward in both eyes by biomicroscopic examination. Small white flecks around the macula in both eyes was detected by fundus examination. The patient considered as Alport syndrome because of kidney transplantation and hearing problems. With an interval of a week, transparent lenses were removed from both eyes by phacoemulsification and intracapsular intraoculer lenses (IOL) were implanted and cycloplegic treatment was interrupted. Best corrected visual acuity in both eyes is 10/10 level was observed in six month follow-up. Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation is a safe and affective method for the treatment of anterior lenticonus. Keywords : Alport, syndrome, anterior, lentikonus, phacoemulsification
