Increase in intraocular pressure after vitrectomy is not an uncommon phenomenon during the early postoperative period. It is mostly temporary, and well-controlled by intraocular pressure-lowering agents. The contumacious increase in intraocular pressure causing an open angle glaucoma seen in the late postoperative period following vitrectomy is a newly come out aspect. Literature regarding this issue indicates that, even after many years, secondary glaucoma may be an additional threat to patients, despite the successful treatment of vitreoretinal diseases with vitrectomy. The relation between vitrectomy and open angle glaucoma is still needed to be clarified with further larger multicenter studies. The current article reviews the literature and introduces this noteworthy but still controversial topic. Keywords : Vitreous, vitrectomy, open angle glaucoma, oxygen, oxidative stress
