Keratoconus is a progressive, noninflammatory, bilateral ectatic corneal disease. Visual impairment occurs as a result of irregular astigmatism, progressive myopia, and secondary corneal scarring. Collagen crosslinking by riboflavin and ultraviolet-A (UVA) stabilizes progressive keratoconus by addressing some of the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of the disease. The interaction of riboflavin and UVA (365 nm) causes the formation of reactive oxygen species which creates chemical bonds (crosslinks) between collagen molecules. Oxidative damage effect of UVA exposure is potential complication of this procedure. We present a case of significant cataract formation in a young keratoconus patient after collagen crosslinking procedure, necessitating phacoemulsification with a posterior chamber implant. Keywords : Keratoconus, cross linking, cataract
