Comparison of Central Corneal Thickness with Two Different Ultrasonic Pachymeter in Normal Population

Purpose: To compare the result of central corneal thickness (CCT) obtained with two different pachymeter in normal subjects.
Matherials and Methods: One hundred sixty eyes in 80 healthy subjects without any ocular disorder were investigated. Central corneal thickness of each subject was measured with Alcon(40 Mhz) and Accutome (65 Mhz) brand pachymeter consecutively. Statistical analyses were made by using with SPSS ver. 15.0 and MedCalc software and 0.05 was assigned as significant level.
Results: Mean age was 46.2±14.9 years. Forty two (52.5%) of the subjects were men 38 (47,5%) were women. Mean CCT was measured 551.05±32.99 µm with Alcon pachymeter and 554.40±32.35 µm with Accutome. Difference between two measurements were statistically significant with paired sample test (p=0.001). Strong correlation was found between two measurements with interclass correlation test (r=0.969 and p=0.001). Additionally, data was evaluated with Bland-Altman method and some of the result was observed beyond the 95% confidence interval.
Conclusion: Though statistically significant strong correlation, agreement between two different pachymeter was found poor and concluded that they could not be used in place of each other.
