Doç., İnönü Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Göz Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı, Malatya - TÜRKİYE An intravitreal dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex®, Allergan, USA) is currently commonly used for the treatment of macular edema due to causes such as retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and also diabetes and uveitis. We present two cases where a dexamethasone implant planned to be placed intravitreally for macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion was instead placed into the lens body by mistake as a rare complication of intravitreal dexamethasone implant injection. Possible causes of the inadvertent injection into the lens body include physician carelessness, patient incompliance, type of local anesthesia, the distance of the injection area to the limbus, hypotonia, weakness of the sclera, damage in the zonules holding the lens due to repeated injections, and a change in lens position. A good knowledge of injection technique, especially during procedures involving implants, is required to avoid this rare complication. Keywords : Dexamethasone implant, ozurdex, retinal vein occlusion
