Uveitic Glaucoma and Recent Treatment Modalities
Ufuk ELGİN
M.D. Associate Professor, Education Responsible, S.B. Ankara Ulucanlar Eye Uveitis is a group of an infectious or noninfectious inflammatory disease of iris, ciliary body and choroid layers of the eye, which may cause visual loss. Systemic involvement may accompany the disease which is mostly seen at childhood and younger ages and it causes serious ocular and systemic complications. Glaucoma and increased intraocular pressure (IOP) are the most important complications of uveitis. Uveitic glaucoma has worse prognosis than primary glaucoma because of the structural destruction and ischemia due to the recurrent inflammation and more resistant to treatment. Also topical and systemic corticosteroid use may negatively affect the course of glaucoma. The aim of this review is to summarize the pathogenesis, epidemiology and clinical course of the disease and inform the readers about the recent treatment modalities. Keywords : Uveitis, glaucoma, intraocular pressure
