Management of Patient with Glaucoma Suspicion
Esin BAŞER
Celal Bayar University School of Medicine, Dept. of Ophthalmology, Manisa/TURKEY Glaucoma is a group of diseases with multifactorial origin presenting with retinal ganglion cell loss, structural changes of optic disc and functional losses of visual field. While diagnosis of glaucoma can be made without doubt in many patients with the aid of contemporary diagnostic methods, some patients are followed as “glaucoma suspects” since there is a contradiction between appearance of optic disc, level of intraocular pressure, functional and structural tests. In a majority of glaucoma suspects definite conclusions can be reached after following the patient for a while, whereas some patients can be diagnosed only after progression of structural and functional losses are shown. This review will go over the management of glaucoma suspect patients. Keywords : Glaucoma, intraocular pressure, optic nerve head, optical coherence tomography, retinal nerve fiber, risk factors, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, visual field
