Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) is a high resolution ultrasound technology developed by Pavlin, Sherar and Foster. Using high frequency (35-50 MHz) probes with a resolution of 40 microns and penetration depth of 4-6 mm, UBM provides qualitative and quantitave assessment of anterior segment structures. UBM provides valuable information in ocular pathologies such as glaucoma, ocular hypotony, cysts, tumours, trauma and intraocular foreign bodies. This article is a short review of UBM in the evaluation of anterior segment pathologies and usefulness in treatment strategies. Keywords : Ultrasound biomicroscopy, anterior segment imaging, glaucoma
