Purpose: To compare anterior chamber depth (ACD) in patients with or without cataract by using IOL-Master, Pentacam-Scheimpflug and keratometry methods.

Material and Method: Patients were classified into two groups as with (Group 1) or without cataract (Group 2). All patients had undergone complete ophthalmologic examination including measurement of visual acuity, slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, and intraocular pressure measurement with an applanation tonometer. ACD measurements were obtained by using keratometric measurements with the Haag-Streit Javal keratometer, IOL-Master (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany) and Pentacam (Oculus, Germany). Theoretical ACD was calculated by the (K1+K2)/2 x 0.29+0.5 formula. Both groups were evaluated among themselves via the measurement methods.

Results: Group 1 included 150 eyes of 120 patients and Group 2 included 150 eyes of 80 patients. The mean age was 72.57 (62-87) and 47.7 (40-60) years respectively. In Group 1 the mean ACD value obtained was 2.15 mm (2.08-2.26 mm) by IOL-Master and 2.44 mm (2.31-2.56 mm) by Pentacam. Theoretical ACD was 2.12 mm (2.03-2.26 mm). In Group 2 the mean ACD value obtained was 3.58 mm (3.32-3.71 mm) by IOL-Master and 3.85 mm (3.73-3.99 mm) by Pentacam. Theoretical ACD was 3.55 mm (3.34-3.69 mm). According to measurement methods, ACD was significantly smaller in group 1 than group 2. There was no significant difference between measurement methods regarding ACD.

Discussion: ACD decreases in inverse proportion to the development of cataracts and age. On the basis of the calculation method, IOL-Master was more reliable than Pentacam. Keywords : IOL-Master, anterior chamber depth, Pentacam
