Recurrent Corneal Erosion Treatment with Anterior Stromal Puncture and Bandage Contact Lens

M.D., Special Birinci Göz Hospital, Eye Clinic, İstanbul/TURKEY Purpose: To report treatment of recurrent corneal erosion with anterior stromal puncture and long-term bandage contact lens application.

Materials and Methods: Patients with recurrent corneal erosion who had treated with anterior stromal puncture and bandage contact lens application were retrospectively reviewed. Individuals who underwent anterior stromal puncture and bandage contact lens application between January 2010 and June 2012 with a minimum follow up of 6 months were studied. Bandage contact lenses applied for a month.

Results: Twenty eight eyes of 27 patients were performed anterior stromal puncture and bandage contact lens application with a mean follow up of 10.4 months. Reasons for the recurrent corneal erosion included trauma in 11 eyes, basal membrane dystrophy in 6 eyes, LASIK surgery in 5 eyes, bullous keratopathy in 2 eyes, and in 4 eyes no cause could be detected. The mean recurrence of erosions were 2,8. Diffuse lamellar keratitis were developed in one LASIK eye after the precedure. Only one recurrence was observed during a minimum follow-up period of 6 months

Conclusions: Anterior stromal puncture and long-term bandage contact lens application is effective treatment in recurrent corneal erosions. Keywords : Recurrent corneal erosion, anterior stromal micropuncture, bandage contact lens
