Purpose: To evaluate the combine silicone oil removal with ‘Doğanay silicone oil system' and phacoemulsification surgery.
Materials and Methods: Twenty eyes of 18 patients who underwent combine phacoemulsification and silicone oil removal with ‘'Doğanay silicone oil removal system' at our clinic were recruited in this study. All of the patients underwent phacoemulfication after the peribulbar anesthesia. Then with ‘'Doğanay silicone oil removal system'' 1000 cSt silicone oil was removed. The parameters evaluated were; the mean time interval between the previous pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil endotaponade and the silicone oil removal time, intraopertaive and postoperative complications, preoperative and postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP), additional retinal surgical procedures during the surgery, preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).
Results: 11 female and 7 male patients with a mean age of 59.28±9.27 were evaluated. The mean time interval between the previous pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil endotaponade and the silicone oil removal time was 9.0±2.62 months. The mean silicone oil removal time was 145.3±21.6 seconds and the mean postoperative follow-up time was 5.2±3.02 months. Postoperative complications were; re-detachment in one eye and vitreus hemorrhage in one eye. While there was a statistically significant difference between preoperative and postoperative BCVA (Graphic 1, p<0.05), there was not a statistically significant difference between preoperative and postoperative IOP (Graphic 2, p>0.05).
Conclusion: Phacoemulsification surgery with ‘'Doğanay silicone oil removal system'' is a safe, fast and easy technique.
