Purpose: To investigate the relationship between visual field (VF), Heidelberg retina tomography (HRT), and scanning laser polarimetry (NFA-GDx) in normal tension glaucoma (NTG) cases.
Materials and Methods: The study groups included 32 NTG patients who were followed up at the Glaucoma Section of ……, Department of Ophthalmology between April 2005 and December 2007. Medical history was taken from all participants, and, after a complete ophthalmological examination, visual fiel d tests, an optic nerve head examination with HRT-I, and a retinal nerve fiber layer examination with NFA-GDx were performed. Right eyes were used for comparisons.
Results: There was a positive statistically significant correlation between DA, CA, C/D area ratio, and mean deviation (MD). A positive significant correlation was determined between C/D area ratio, MCD, and pattern standard deviation (PSD). Symmetry and the number were significantly correlated with MD positively. Inferior ratio, superior/nasal, maximum modulation, and ellipse modulation were significantly correlated with MD negatively. It was seen that there was a positive significant relationship between PSD and symmetry and the number. Inferior ratio, superior/nasal and maximum modulation were negatively correlated with PSD.
Conclusions: Studies performed with VF, HRT, and NFA-GDx for diagnosis and evaluation of progression in glaucoma disease are ongoing. It is important to determine the correlation between structural and functional changes for an early diagnosis. To date, these three tests have been using to complement each other.
