Wound Healing Modulation After Glaucoma Surgery

Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları A.D., Ankara Trabeculectomy has been accepted as a gold standart for the surgical treatment of glaucoma for years. Despite the improvements in surgical treatment of glaucoma; the complex pathophysiological mechanisms in conjunctival and scleral wound healing limit the surgical success. Antiproliferative agents has been used frequently in conjunction with trabeculectomy in order to decrease fibroblastic activity. Promising new wound modulation agents are currently under study.

In this rewiew, the spectrum of agents that are available for modulation of the scarring response following glaucoma surgery has been discussed. Keywords : Filtrating glaucoma surgery, wound healing
