Capsular bag distention syndrome is a complication of cataract surgery caused by entrapment of retained viscoelastic material and some proteinaceous products of lens epithelial cells between the intraocular lens (IOL) and the posterior capsule and causing distention of the posterior capsular bag through the vitreous body. Therefore opposition of the iris posterior and IOL, shallow anterior chamber, decrease in vision and increase in intraocular pressure are seen. Posterior capsulotomy provides a clear optical environment, decrease in intraocular pressure and increase in vision by permitting this material to enter the vitreous. Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy and its results in a case of capsular bag distention syndrome seen 5 years after surgery are discussed in this study. Keywords : Capsular bag distention syndrome, Nd: YAG laser capsulotomy
